COPD Overview

The intent of writing this blog is to create awareness about the disease & to spread the fact that COPD, though considered a chronic, debilitating and sometimes fatal disease, can be managed, controlled and slowed down.

Quality of life can still be improved post diagnosis of COPD.
COPD primarily is comprised of three related conditions

  • Chronic Bronchitis
  • Chronic Asthma
  • Emphysema
In each condition there is chronic obstruction of the flow of air through the airways and out of the lungs, and the obstruction generally is permanent and may be progressive over time.

COPD causes poor gas exchange in the lungs leading to decreased oxygen levels in the blood, increased carbon dioxide levels, and shortness of breath.
